Former Texas A&M star and Olympic sprinter Shavez Hart passed away at age 29 after being fatally shot outside a nightclub in the Bahamas Saturday.
Per TMZ Sports, Hart got into an altercation outside the nightclub at 2 am when the tragedy took place. Tuesday, Sept. 6, would have been his 30th birthday.
Hart won the gold in the 4x400m relay at the 2015 NCAA Indoor Championship, as well as the 100m at the 2015 SEC Outdoor Championship during his time at Texas A&M. He later joined the Bahamas Olympic team as a sprinter, winning the silver medal in the 4x400m relay in 2016.
Aggies track and field coach Pat Henry spoke on the tragedy, via TMZ.
“This is so tragic,” Henry said. “Shavez Hart was of course one of our finest athletes ever, but he was one of the kindest people I have met, and such a soft-spoken man.”
