Former Texas A&M tight end Martellus Bennett signs with Packers

It was a happy 30th birthday for former Texas A&M star Martellus Bennett, who signed with the Green Bay Packers on Friday. The Packers have confirmed the signing on their official Twitter feed.

Bennett, who was a Second-Team All-Big 12 selection during his time in College Station, also tacked on a Pro Bowl with the Bears in 2014.
He comes to Green Bay after spending last season with the Patriots, where he unexpectedly became the first option at tight end following the injury of former first-team All-Pro Rob Gronkowski. Bennett started 12 of 16 games last season, recording 55 catches for 701 yards and a career-high seven touchdowns.
While in New England, Bennett won a Super Bowl in only his second career postseason appearance. He was a key factor in the Patriots win, securing 5-of-6 catches for 62 yards.
For Bennett, a big, physical, 6-foot-7 tight end, the pairing with former MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers seems like a fitting birthday present. After joining a Packers team that made the NFC Championship game last season, another run at the Lombardi Trophy may be in the cards.
