Four players who have been tagged by their NFL teams are from current SEC schools.
Chicago Bears receiver Alshon Jeffery, Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry, Buffalo Bills left tackle Cordy Glenn and Denver Broncos outside linebacker — and Super Bowl 50 MVP — Von Miller (yes, we know he didn’t play in the SEC) will all reportedly get franchise tags.
The Broncos placed the “exclusive franchise tag” on Miller, which is a one-year, guaranteed offer worth the average of the top five salaries at the player’s position for the upcoming season.
A non-exclusive franchise tag is a one-year, guaranteed offer worth the average of the top five salaries at the player’s position for the previous season or 120 percent of his previous year’s salary, whichever is greater.
The deadline for teams to designate their franchise tag or transition tag players is today at 4 p.m. ET, and only nine have been reported so far based on NFL.com’s franchise tag tracker.
Here’s a position-by-position breakdown of the salaries that will be given to franchise tag players:
