Four SEC players named finalists for 2017 Senior CLASS Award

Many players now leave NCAA football early to head to the NFL draft, but the value of a four-year player cannot be overstated.
Programs still rely on many seniors, and it is a special thing to play out a senior season for an SEC football team. The Senior CLASS Award was started as a way to honor those exceptional players who spend four years in school and excel both on and off the field.
The finalists for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award were announced on Thursday, and the award seeks to encourage players to become leaders in four areas:
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I FBS senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
CLASS is an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School. Four of the 30 finalists play for SEC schools. Here are the SEC players up for the award:
- Daniel Carlson, K, Auburn
- Frank Ragnow, C, Arkansas
- JK Scott, P, Alabama
- Johnny Townsend, P, Florida
