Oregon’s loss may turn out to be an SEC team’s spoils.
The Ducks lost a commitment from one of the top cornerbacks in the Class of 2016, opening the door for LSU or Alabama to pick up a key recruit with National Signing Day less than a month away.
Jared Mayden, a four-star prospect rated as the No. 10 cornerback in the country according to 247Sports, announced that he won’t be continuing his football career in Eugene.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder from Sachse, Texas, has an official visit set up with Florida State on Jan. 15. Speaking with Scout.com’s Greg Powers, Mayden says “LSU is a maybe” and Alabama is also in consideration.
Mayden would be a good pickup for the Crimson Tide, which still doesn’t have a pure cornerback committed for 2016. Meanwhile, the Tigers aren’t doing too shabby at that position with five-star CB Saivion Smith and four-star CB Andraez Williams already committed.
Mayden has also taken an official visit to Georgia.
