In the modern era of college football, the vaunted transfer portal has revolutionized the way teams acquire talent and build their respective rosters from season to season.
While this new avenue of talent acquisition has undoubtedly brought a lot of positives to the sport, it’s also brought some new challenges as well, and one of the biggest pitfalls has been the amount of tampering that goes on.
It seems like every offseason, new stories emerge regarding teams reaching out to players before they even enter the transfer portal, trying to persuade them to enter and then transfer to their respective schools.
This is what the NCAA calls “tampering,” and it’s supposed to be illegal; however, so far, the powers at the top of college athletics don’t seem to be interested in enforcing their own rules surrounding how coaches contact players on other teams.
This has led to coaches taking matters into their own hands when it comes to keeping their players committed. Syracuse head coach Fran Brown recently joined the I AM NEXT podcast with Darien Rencher and Mo Hasan to discuss how he plans to deal with other programs that try to poach his players.
“It’s the game. That’s what they do. I don’t care, but don’t let me find out,” Brown said. “I ain’t no b****. I’m gonna come at you and I’m gonna see you. There’s a couple of guys I called and they tried to say ‘lose my line.’ Man, shut up.”
It’s clear that Brown isn’t afraid to get into it with opposing coaches when it comes to keeping his players in orange, and this is one of the many traits that have quickly endeared him to Syracuse fans and players everywhere.
