Watching the two mascots on the field in the Mercedes Benz Superdome on Monday night for LSU and Clemson, LSU fans saw a dramatic difference.

That caused the LSU faithful to open a GoFundMe account to support their opponent’s mascot. The description went like this:

“After turning on the national championship game on Monday the 13th I thought bad for The Clemson Tiger. It seems that the University purchased their mascot costume from the clearance rack from TG&Y in 1981. All proceeds will be mailed to the Clemson University Athletic Department at the conclusion of the fundraiser.
GO LSU!!!”

It caught on, and then some. Nearly 24 hours after it was initiated, the effort had collected more than $2,000 from 242 donors. The seemingly off putting mascot features yellow eyes, a narrow head and wrinkled neck fur.

Clemson’s mascot was the target of social media jokes during the 42-25 LSU victory on Monday night in New Orleans.
