Georgia’s sensational freshman Anthony Edwards continues to impress. Even after a game in which he poured in 37 points against Michigan State, Edwards nailed a buzzer beater from deep to clinch a victory.
The shot helped the Bulldogs knock off D-II Chaminade at the Maui Invitational as he scored 24 points, but was held in check from the field for nearly 12 minutes before he hit the 27-footer. Edwards has so far lived up to the hype of him being a top-shelf freshman who’s expected to leave for the NBA after this season and be one of the first draft picks taken.
With less than 6 seconds remaining, Georgia called timeout to draw up a play for Edwards, and he made it with 0.6 seconds remaining.
“He’s wired to take that shot and make that shot,” Georgia coach Tom Crean said, according to the AP, after the Bulldogs beat Chaminade 80-77 win in the Maui Invitational seventh-place game Wednesday night.
Added Edwards, “I got the ball across half court, I looked at the clock, it was like five seconds,” Edwards said. “I said, well, I know they’re going to pack it in, so I’m just going to pull up for the three.”
