Garrett Nussmeier flashed a big smile, but didn’t take the narrative that he carried LSU on his back in a ReliaQuest Bowl win over Wisconsin on Monday.
Speaking to Lauren Sisler on ESPN after the narrow win, Nussmeier explained it was a team win.
“I didn’t carry the team on my back, we did it together,” he said. “It started 2 weeks ago with bowl prep. First, I’d like to say, God is good. His timing is always right. I feel really good right now, I feel really blessed, and that’s all because of him, everything happens through him.”
Nussmeier engineered a 98-yard scoring drive in the closing minutes to take the lead in the eventual 35-31 win.
“We did a great job communicating and making sure we were in the right protection, in the right play and the O-line did a great job giving me time,” he said. “Like I said earlier this week, we’ve got guys that can make plays. Just give them an opportunity to show, and the coaches put us in the right position to make plays.”
Asked about taking over the offense from Jayden Daniels, Nussmeier replied, “It’s awesome, God is good.”
