Garrett Nussmeier was the backup quarterback on an offense last year that featured Jayden Daniels, Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. Losing that much talent can lower the expectations for a team the following season, but Nussmeier has been better than expected thus far in 2024.

In his latest game against Ole Miss, Nussmeier battled through some adversity to help the Tigers get the big win over Ole Miss. He completed only 22-of-51 passes but threw for 337 yards and 3 touchdowns. LSU was down 10 points late in the second quarter, but Nussmeier and the Tigers battled back to get the 29-26 overtime win.

Nussmeier was named the Reese’s Senior Bowl co-offensive player of the week for his winning performance against the Rebels. He shared the award with Kaleb Johnson, who helped lead the Iowa Hawkeyes to a wild 40-16 win against Washington last Saturday.

Nussmeier has been phenomenal all season for the Tigers, as he has thrown for 1,989 yards and 18 touchdowns. He is currently 5th in passing touchdowns in the country and 6th in passing yards.

The Tigers and Nussmeier will be back in action in Week 8 as they will be on the road at Arkansas. The Tigers are right in contention to make the College Football Playoff, but as the Razorbacks showed against Tennessee two weeks ago, they can be a tough out.
