Gary Danielson has made a list as part of his preparations for the Texas A&M at Tennessee game on Saturday. How Tennessee handles the wide receiver position with star Bru McCoy injured and out of the game is a big deal.

Danielson shared those thoughts during a segment on WNML in Knoxville.

“It’s No. 1 on my list, there are 2 main parts of this game, and that’s 1 and 1A,” Danielson said.

Danielson noted how Ramel Keyton came on last year when Cedric Tillman was hurt, but he explained that “with the tempo they want to play, it’s not easy to get new players on the field, or rotate at wide receiver. So who’s going to — if you put a new player that hasn’t practiced there a lot, then does that limit your tempo offense. It’s a big difference from where they were last year.”

Without McCoy, Tennessee is missing a “big target, great blocker for the run game, from the left side. That’s a work in progress.”

Danielson is aware of the talented and productive front 7 for the Aggies, and he doesn’t put this all on Joe Milton to deliver.

“This receiving corps has to step it up a bit against the secondary for A&M,” Danielson said. “Because yes, the spread-out offense, will still keep that front 7 off balance. But your receivers got to make plays. If they catch the short pass, they have to bust tackles, they have to block the edge. The receiver play for Tennessee is a big part to this game.”
