Gary Danielson, best known for calling the “SEC on CBS” Game at 3:30 for many years in addition to multiple other roles with national media outlets like ABC and ESPN, recently aired his thoughts on the initial release of the College Football Playoff rankings.

As would be expected, the release was met with controversy at multiple points, including Georgia being ranked at No. 3 as opposed to No. 2, and why Miami was several spots ahead of BYU, despite BYU technically having one more major victory under its belt than the Hurricanes do.

Danielson laid out what he thinks will happen when all is in the books and the final CFP rankings are announce for the 2024 season.

“I think, personally, at the end of the whole deal, there will be 4 SEC teams and there will be 4 Big Ten teams,” Danielson said. “The ACC champ, the Big 12 champ, BYU, maybe even Colorado could make a late run at it. And then Notre Dame and then Boise State. I think that’s what the field will look like.”

Danielson says he doesn’t pay much attention to the rankings release show until the final one.

“I think this TV show is fun to do on most Tuesday nights,” he said. “I don’t really pay attention that much until the last one. But I think we can see if the chalk holds without major upsets, but at least we’re not talking about what team, whether it is team four of five. So, it’s way better than it used to be.”

It will be interesting to watch how the CFP picture evolves as we head through the final stretch of the season.
