Has it really been 10 years since Tim Tebow introduced the jump pass to college football? Since Jarvis Moss kept a team’s dream alive? Since Earl Everett ditched his helmet in pursuit of Troy Smith?

Time flies.

Florida announced Thursday that the 2006 BCS championship team will reunite in Gainesville the weekend of Oct. 15, the homecoming contest against Missouri, and be honored on the field prior to kickoff.

Former linebacker Brandon Siler spoke to UF in-house reporter Chris Harry about the occasion.

“I’ll get to see guys I haven’t seen in years and I’m going to love that,” Siler said. “You always miss playing the game, but one of the thing you really miss the most is the locker room, being around the guys and that camaraderie. I’m looking forward to getting a little of that again.”

Siler also spoke about his memories of seeing the reunited 1996 team, which won the school’s first national championship, being honored on the field during the 2006 season.

“Coming out of the tunnel and being able to put my eyes on their eyes … ,” Siler said. “Those guys had done it. The only ones to ever do it here. For me, that made it real. I took that with me that day.”

Could being in the presence of the 2006 squad will have a similar impact on the 2016 team? We shall see.
