Gators pull another DB out of South Florida

Florida was thin in the secondary in 2016. Jim McElwain has made sure that won’t be the case in 2017.

The Gators picked up a commitment from 3-star Miramar (Hollywood, Fla.) DB Brian Edwards. It’s the second time Wednesday that UF has gone head-to-head with Miami for a South Florida defensive back and won the recruiting battle.

Edwards is considered both a cornerback and safety. Florida may opt to use the 6-foot-3, 195-pounder at safety, as 4-star cornerbacks Christopher Henderson, Brad Stewart and Marco Wilson are all in the pledge class along with 3-star CB Shawn Davis.

Secondary depth was a concern in this class following the departures of Teez Tabor, Quincy Wilson and Marcus Maye, and the Gators have successfully addressed that issue with the recent additions of Stewart, Henderson and Edwards.
