A former Auburn coach has already weighed in on the biggest game of Week 2 in the SEC.

Just after Auburn beat Georgia Southern 41-7, Gene Chizik said there’s no doubt that Auburn is ready for the defending national champions. Auburn will travel to Clemson on Saturday.

“They’re prepared for the game,” Chizik said on the SEC Network. “I looked at the run game, that’s Gus Malzahn’s run offense, I don’t care how you slice it. You’ve got two backs that rushed for about 140 bills, OK. You’ve got a quarterback that we want to see a lot from, can he throw it vertically down the field? He did just enough to do that.”

While quarterback Jarrett Stidham threw for 185 yards and two touchdowns with an interception, that wasn’t the store in Chizik’s mind.

“It’s the defense. The defense is lights out,” Chizik said. “And is as good as advertised. It’s hard to hold somebody to seven first downs and 70 or 80 yards of total offense. It was a complete shut down until they put the backups in.”
