The 2022 college baseball season got underway Friday night. On Saturday, Georgia clinched its season-opening series with a walk-off win over Albany.
Cole and Connor Tate, identical twin brothers, led the way Saturday, going 7-for-10 at the plate. It was 6-6 in the 9th inning when Connor notched a 2-out double, his 4th hit of the game. Corey Collins was intentionally walked, bringing up Cole Tate. His 3rd hit of the game plated Connor to score the winning run.

The Bulldogs trailed 4-0 in the 3rd inning before finally getting on the board in the 4th inning. UGA scored 6 runs over the final 4 frames.
“I thought we showed some toughness,” Georgia head coach Scott Stricklin said after the game, per the team website. “We’ve had two close games, and that’s what you want early in the season. We’d love to sit back in a rocking chair and win by 10 runs but that doesn’t happen in college baseball. Everybody is good. They’re old and experienced. We knew it was going to be a challenge. We were able to fight back when things didn’t look like they were going our way. I was really encouraged by our kids not giving up.”
Georgia won Friday’s season opener 4-2. The Bulldogs will go for the sweep on Sunday at 1 p.m.
