Scoring machine: Yante Maten has only failed to reach double-digit points once this season
If Georgia is going to stay alive in the SEC Tournament, the Bulldogs are going to have to keep feeding Yane Maten.
The AP 2018 SEC Player of the Year scored 21 points Thursday to lead Georgia to a 62-60 win over Missouri in the 2nd Round of the SEC Tournament. The win advances the Bulldogs to the quarterfinals of the tournament and sets up a date against Kentucky for the right to go to the league semifinals.
Maten’s performance marked the 31st time in 32 games the star Bulldog has registered double digits points in a game this season. With remarkable stats like that, it’s no wonder the AP voted him as the league’s Player of the Year for 2018.
The lone game in which Maten failed to reach double points was against Missouri on Jan. 10. In that contest, Maten had nine points.
The SEC gave a personal shout-out to Maten following his terrific showing Thursday. To go along with his 21 points, Maten also hauled in 10 rebounds, two blocks, a steal, and an assist against the Tigers.
