Kirby Smart currently does not have an offensive coordinator on staff in Athens as Jim Chaney left the Georgia program to take over Jeremy Pruitt’s offense at Tennessee. While Smart may not have an offensive coordinator now, that may change rather quickly.
According to Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio, Kentucky offensive coordinator Eddie Gran has been offered the same role in Athens. It is unclear at this time whether Gran plans to accept the deal or stay in Lexington.
Gran has served on Mark Stoops’ Kentucky staff since the 2016 season. Under his watch, Kentucky has turned into a powerhouse running program that consistently churns out 1,000-yard rushers. In fact, Benny Snell just set the all-time school rushing record in only three seasons. The Wildcats finished second in the East this season, going 10-3 overall, including a win in the Citrus Bowl over Penn State, due in large part to the success of Gran’s rushing attack.
Here is what Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio is reporting in regards to Georgia’s interest in Gran:
A source tells KSR that UK Offensive Coordinator Eddie Gran was offered the position of Offensive Coordinator at Georgia under Kirby Smart in the last 24 hours. Smart has offered Gran total control of the Offense and a salary of at least $1.1 million.
Keep in mind Georgia still has James Coley on staff, who reportedly turned down an opportunity to leave Athens last offseason when offered the offensive coordinator position by Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M.
