Georgia defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann is seemingly destined for a head coaching job in the near future, as the 35-year-old Bulldogs assistant has excelled during his time in Athens.
But while he has been linked to the now-filled opening at Michigan along with other possibilities, Schumann told reporters Saturday that he is in no hurry to rush into a head coaching position.
“I’m really intentional about my family’s happiness… I’m really happy to be here, and I’m here intentionally,” Schumann said during the Bulldogs’ preparation for Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day (8 pm ET, ESPN).
“When the time’s right, if the time is right, then it’ll sort itself out … When things happen in life, they’ll happen when they’re meant to happen.”
Schumann’s prowess as both a defensive coordinator and recruiter is highly sought after, and he was mentioned among candidates like Matt Patricia, Brian Kelly, and Jesse Minter for the Wolverines’ opening before Michigan eventually hired former Utah coach Kyle Whittingham.
Schumann has been the Georgia defensive coordinator since 2019, and also has coached inside linebackers in Athens since 2016. Previous to working under Kirby Smart at Georgia, Schumann worked as a graduate assistant at Alabama.
