Georgia fans received some bad news with the death of a legend on Sunday night.
Zippy Morocco, a two-sport star in football and basketball for the Bulldogs in the 1950s, died at his home in Athens, as reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Monday.
Morocco was 86.
According to classiccity.com’s Tim Bryant, Morocco’s death is being investigated as a potential suicide as Morocco was involved in a reported domestic dispute beforehand.
Morocco is a member of the university’s Circle of Honor and the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame. On the hardwood, he became UGA’s first basketball All-American in 1953. On the gridiron, he was a dangerous punt returner.
Military obligations prevented Morocco from using those talents to pursue a career in either sport.
