A member of the Georgia football team in the late 1960s has passed away.

According to Barry Jackson, beat writer for the Miami Dolphins for the Miami Herald, former Bulldog Jake Scott has died. The news was passed to Jackson by Dick Anderson, who played with Scott from 1970-1975.

The Greenwood, S.C. native attended Washington-Lee (now Washington-Liberty) High School in Arlington, Va., and was Georgia’s interception leader in back-to-back years while being named an All-American in 1968. He recorded 315 return yards on interceptions, a program record, and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2011.

A 5-time Pro Bowler, he is best known for his MVP performance in Super Bowl VII, where he made 2 interceptions as the Dolphins defeated the Washington Redskins 14-7—completing a 14-0 mark that to this day stands as the only perfect season in NFL history. Scott and the Dolphins would go 12-2 the next year as they defeated the Minnesota Vikings for a 2nd straight championship.
