Jake Skole is going to be the oldest freshman Bulldog in Athens.

The class of 2010 graduate has decided to give college football a shot after playing more than five years in baseball’s minor leagues. Skole was the No. 15 overall pick by the Texas Rangers in 2010.

“I felt like I was spinning wheels some in baseball and I did not want that window for football to close up,” Skole told Dawgs247.

The former Georgia Tech baseball and football commit said he was approached by UGA coach Kirby Smart at the end of baseball season.

“Kirby was the first one to reach out to me, once baseball season ended and he made it seem like he would really like to have me a lot,” Skole said.”He gave me the basic stuff for a recruit, but it was funny doing it all over again five years later, it was fun though.”

He looks forward to the opportunity to play defense.

“I think on the defensive side, I am not sure if it will be linebacker or safety, there were a couple of schools that wanted me to stick it out on the offensive side of the ball, but that was part of the reason I am going with Georgia, they want me on defense,” he said.

Skole was a three-star prospect out of Blessed Trinity High School in the Atlanta area in the 2010 football recruiting class.
