With the 125th game in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry set for Saturday at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia has named its captains for a key Week 2 matchup between the hedges.
Running back Zamir White, linebacker Monty Rice, and defensive back Tyson Campbell were announced on Friday as the 3 players that were given the honor.
White, a redshirt sophomore, ran 13 times for 71 yards and a touchdown during the Dawgs’ 37-10 win over Arkansas in Fayetteville in Week 1. The Laurinburg, N.C., native served as the 3rd-string running back behind D’Andre Swift and Brian Herrien last year, recording 408 yards and 3 touchdowns on 78 carries.
Rice, the team’s leading tackler a season ago, notched 3 tackles and 1 pass defended against the Razorbacks last Saturday. The senior was named to the watch list of the Butkus Award, given annually to the best linebacker in the nation, during the offseason.
Campbell, a product of Plantation, Fla., was responsible for a pair of tackles—one for a loss—and a defended pass against Arkansas. Last year, the junior recorded 14 tackles and 4 passes defensed.
