Georgia player earns top-10 spot in ESPN’s ranking of the top freshmen in college football
Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton is enjoying a great season through the air and on the ground, and he’s got a lot of teammates to thank for that.
One of them is a freshman who lines up in front of him on just about every play. It’s offensive guard Dontrell Glover, whose excellent play up front has helped pave the way for Stockton and the entire Bulldogs offense. Glover’s top-notch performance so far in 2025 earned him some national praise on Friday morning, when he was placed at No. 10 on ESPN’s midseason list of the top 15 freshmen in college football.
Glover was a 4-star phenom in the Class of 2025 coming out of high school in Fairburn, Ga., and Kirby Smart is glad the 6-foot-3, 320-pound stud decided to stay in-state and play at Georgia. Glover has benefitted from injuries along the Georgia offensive line, which have given him the chance to shine immediately.
During Georgia’s game against Auburn on Oct. 11, Glover proved himself to be particularly invaluable. Glover played the most snaps of his young career up to that point against the Tigers, and it didn’t go to waste, as he helped Georgia pull out a 20-10 road victory. Glover excelled in pass protection against Auburn and in the loss to Alabama, and he had a great all-around performance in the victory over Ole Miss last Saturday, helping the Bulldogs roll up 510 yards of total offense.
Glover set another career-high in snaps played against the Rebels, and his strong performance translated to a strong performance by that Georgia offense, as the Bulldogs piled up 43 points in the big victory.
After a bye in Week 9, Glover will have another opportunity to showcase his talents on Nov. 1 when Georgia faces SEC rival Florida in Jacksonville.
