Georgia checked in at No. 5 in the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season, and a big part is due to the excellent play of quarterback Gunner Stockton. Stockton is now being recognized as a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award, which goes to the nation’s most outstanding player.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Stockton, a native of Tiger, GA, has amassed 2,040 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions with the nation’s No. 3 QBR this season (89.4).

Stockton has also rushed for 321 yards and 7 touchdowns this season as well. In Georgia‘s win vs. Mississippi State, Stockton completed 18 of his 29 passes for 264 yards, 3 touchdowns, and no interceptions, while also rushing for 31 yards.

This is Stockton’s third season with Georgia. For his college career, Stockton has amassed 2,628 yards and 18 touchdowns through the air in addition to rushing for 371 yards. Coming out of high school, Stockton was regarded by 247Sports as the nation’s No. 7 quarterback and the No. 11 prospect from Georgia.

Next up for Stockton and Georgia is a massive matchup vs. visiting No. 11 Texas on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on ABC. Georgia has won the last 2 meetings against Texas. The Bulldogs beat the Longhorns 22-19 in the 2024 SEC Championship Game.
