The Georgia Bulldogs received good news from within their roster Monday morning, as running back Chauncey Bowens announced his plan to return to Athens for his sophomore season.
Bowens was mulling over declaring for the transfer portal but instead posted “Year 3. Let’s run it back,” with a photo of himself on his Instagram page. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
Bowens enjoyed a breakout redshirt freshman season in 2025, taking over the RB1 role in midseason and rushing for 526 yards on 119 carries and six touchdowns. He also added 14 receptions for 82 yards. Bowens tallied 58 rushing yards on 16 carries before redshirting in 2024.
Bowens joined running back Nate Frazier and quarterback Gunner Stockton as Bulldogs to record at least 100 rushing attempts, 450 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns.
Bowens’ decision to return to Athens means that Georgia boasts him, Frazier, Dwight Phillips and Bo Walker at running back heading into 2026. The Bulldogs are losing both Josh McCray and Cash Jones to the 2026 NFL Draft as well as Roderick Robinson to the transfer portal. It is possible that Frazier could decide to turn pro, as Georgia is awaiting both his and Stockton’s decision on their future.
