Stetson Bennett has a career that absolutely defied the odds.
The Georgia quarterback’s college career is well-documented, and Georgia put out a montage hype video to promote it ahead of Saturday’s Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York.
Known for his nickname, “The Mailman,” and his winding road to and from Georgia to eventually be the starting quarterback for the national championship-winning team, Bennett has plenty to chronicle. Much of that stems from being counted out, both as a walk-on, and later from a segment of his own fan base, which didn’t believe he could lead a team to a title.
“Stetson’s one of the least-respected good players there is,” coach Kirby Smart said. “People just keep doubting him, and that’s fine with me.”
There’s also the unique aspect of his story when Bennett told his father, at 3-years-old, that he’d be the starting quarterback at Georgia.
Bennett, again, is viewed as a long shot to win the Heisman as most college football fans and media believe Southern Cal QB Caleb Williams is the odds-on favorite.
