The Georgia Bulldogs are coming off another disappointing early exit from the College Football Playoff after a dominant regular season showing, and head coach Kirby Smart is starting to shake things up on his staff.
Smart shook up his offensive staff by promoting Phil Rouser to offensive line coach, with Stacy Searles taking a step back, and also brought on former West Virginia staffer Larry Knight to take over for departing outside linebackers coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe.
In addition to these moves, CBS Sports’ insider Chris Hummer reports that Smart is also bringing on a promising young staffer, Kennesaw State wide receivers coach David Whitlow, as the Dawgs’ new assistant quarterbacks coach.
A former standout DB at Alabama State, Whitlow has been rising up the coaching ranks over the past 7 seasons, making stops at Auburn, Ole Miss, and Georgia State before landing at Kennesaw State last year as the Golden Owls’ wide receivers coach.
In his single season with Kennesaw State, he helped lead one of the best passing attacks in the Group of 5 en route to securing the program’s first conference title since joining the FBS level in 2024.
Smart is well known for sniffing out elite young coaching talent, and Whitlow could end up being that latest in what’s become a very expansive coaching tree for the 11th-year head man in Athens.
