Georgia is having a nightmare men’s basketball season. Currently, the Bulldogs sport a 6-21 overall record and a 1-13 mark in SEC play.

Things aren’t going so well with the coaching staff or players, either. Recently assistant coach Wade Mason was reportedly involved with a “physical incident” with another staffer in the locker room.

Now, according to a report from DawgNation, Georgia is parting ways with Mason:

Mason was suspended with pay after Georgia’s loss Feb. 16 at LSU after a physical incident with director of player development Brian Fish at halftime in the locker room. The AJC was first to report incident and suspension.

Mason’s departure from Georgia is a mutual decision, a person with knowledge of the situation said. Mason has acquired legal representation to assist with the process, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

Per the report, there’s “no chance” of Mason returning next season for the final year of his contract.

Mason spent 5 seasons as an assistant at Stephen F. Austin before joining Crean’s staff prior to this season. Now, it seems he won’t finish out his first year in Athens. What the Bulldogs do to fill the opening on their staff moving forward remains to be seen.
