Georgia softball’s postseason run has come to an end. The Bulldogs fell to No. 1 seed Oklahoma 8-0. OU’s victory came in just six innings thanks to the run rule. The 0-2 showing in Oklahoma City eliminates UGA from the 2021 Women’s College World Series.

Georgia had been on an impressive postseason run. The Bulldogs snapped a seven-game losing streak by winning the Athens Regional, in which Duke was the nationally-seeded team despite Georgia’s host status, 3-0. UGA then went to Gainesville and swept nationally-seeded Florida 2-0 in the Super Regional round.

Georgia’s postseason winning streak was snapped in the WCWS with an opening-round 3-2 loss to Oklahoma State. On Saturday, No. 1 seed Oklahoma got the scoring started with a two-run homer in the top of the second. After a scoreless third, the Sooners added six more runs over the fourth, fifth and six innings. It was a three-run sixth that made it 8-0 and put the run rule in play. UGA was retired in order in the bottom of the sixth, ending the game.

Georgia softball finished the 2021 campaign 34-23.
