Georgia softball knocks off No. 5 Florida in nationally-televised matchup

No. 20 Georgia defeated No. 5 Florida 4-2 on Saturday night.
The game, which was televised on ESPN, featured a one-hitter from UGA pitcher Mary Wilson Avant. Both of the Gators’ runs in this contest were unearned.
Avant struck out six batters across seven complete innings in the victory.
Georgia also benefitted from some timely offense.
Freshman Payden Bordeau launched the first home run of her career in the third inning to tie the game. One frame later, sophomore Sara Mosley put the Bulldogs on top for good with a solo shot.
“The home run I hit was pretty crazy,” Mosely said after the game. “The home run was just me working my process. Coach came up to me before my bat, and she said, ‘I see it. I see it. You’re going to get your hands in front of the ball. I see it.’ The first pitch, I hit it, and she came up to me running and hugged me. My teammates having my back was the most special thing.”

Sophomore Jaiden Fields provided an insurance run with an RBI single in the fifth inning, to give the Bulldogs a 4-2 lead — and produce the game’s final score.
Georgia will try to clinch a series victory over the Gators on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
