Georgia State didn’t have a game on Saturday, but the Panthers’ stock rose after the events in Nashville. The Vanderbilt Commodores pulled arguably the biggest upset in SEC history  as they knocked off No. 1 Alabama, 40-35.

The win was the first time Vanderbilt had ever defeated the No. 1 team in the country, and it helped the Commodores move to 3-2 on the season. One of those losses was on September 14, when the Commodores lost to the aforementioned Panthers, 36-32.

There were 36 points scored in the 4th quarter. Vanderbilt took a 32-29 lead with 1:14 remaining, but the Panthers went down the field and scored on a 25-yard pass from Christian Veilleux to Ted Hurst with 15 seconds left to secure the win.

Veilleux threw for 269 yards and 4 total touchdowns in the game, while Hurst had 7 catches for 128 yards and 2 touchdowns.

After the game, the social media for the Panthers posted a meme to suggest maybe they are the top team in the country.

It sounds good, but the Panthers are only 2-2 on the season. They have wins against Chattanooga and Vanderbilt, with losses to Georgia Tech and Georgia Southern.

Georgia State was off this week, and will be back in action against Old Dominion next Saturday at home.
