Georgia Tech receivers coach following OC Buster Faulkner to Florida, per report
Georgia Tech wide receivers coach Trent McKnight is set to be hired by Florida and reunite with new Gators offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner, according to a report by CBS Sports on Sunday morning.
McKnight’s reported hire would bring some more flavor from Georgia Tech to Gainesville. McKnight worked with Faulkner in Atlanta the past 2 seasons, so he would be hooking back up with Faulkner as the Gators aim to turn the page from the Billy Napier era under new head coach Jon Sumrall.
With Marcus Davis being hired away from Auburn as Florida’s new wide receivers coach, although that hasn’t been formally announced, McKnight would be “likely to work with inside receivers,” according to the CBS Sports report. Davis has updated his Twitter profile, so it appears that McKnight would be teaming up with Davis in coaching the Gators’ wide receivers room in 2026, with McKnight’s focus being the slot receivers.
Another CBS Sports report exactly 2 weeks ago stated that Florida was targeting Davis to be its new wide receivers coach under Sumrall next season, and that hire appears to have been made, with Davis updating his social media.
Now, it looks like Davis has his wing man of sorts for the 2026 season, with Sunday’s reported hire of McKnight, who according to the CBS Sports report has coached “multiple All-ACC receivers” at Georgia Tech.
Before he arrived at Georgia Tech, McKnight was the offensive coordinator at Georgia State. Now it appears he’s leaving for the Sunshine State to reunite with Faulkner as the Gators try to turn up the offense next fall.
