Tom Crean may be on the hot seat, but Georgia players gave him an inspired effort on Tuesday night in an upset of Alabama at Stegeman Coliseum. It ended an 8-game losing streak for Georgia.
Six 3-pointers in the first half helped Georgia build momentum for an 82-76 victory.
Georgia had one of its best efforts of the season, possibly its most complete, as the Bulldogs were excellent at the foul line, and built a six-point lead with 1:19 remaining.
Georgia came back from a six-point halftime deficit, and kept their turnovers in check throughout. Georgia was 20-for-23 at the foul line, and was led overall by Aaron Cook, who had 15 points. Alabama’s James Rojas missed 2 free throws with 1:05 remaining, and on the other end, Aaron Cook for Georgia sank both foul shots.
The win helped Georgia improve to 6-14 on the season, and 1-6 in the SEC.
Near the end, Georgia fans chanted, “Just like football” as a reference to the national championship win over Alabama earlier this month in Indianapolis.
Georgia was led by Jabri Abdur-Rahim, who had 13 points off the bench. Abdur-Rahim had 10 points from the foul line alone, and had 5 rebounds.
Alabama slipped to 13-7 overall, and 4-4 in SEC play.
