Georgia’s Charlie Condon was named the winner of the 2024 Golden Spikes Award on Saturday night.
Condon beat out Oregon State’s Travis Bazzana and Arkansas’ Hagen Smith for the honor. He’s the second consecutive SEC player to win the honor, joining LSU’s Dylan Crews from the 2023 season.

Condon is Georgia’s first-ever winner of the prestigious Golden Spikes Award, which was first handed out in 1978. The award has been given to numerous future big-leaguers over the years. Recent winners include Adley Rutschman, Andrew Vaughn, Kris Bryant, Bryce Harper, Stephen Strasburg, Buster Posey, David Price and Tim Lincecum, amongst others.
Condon led Georgia to a successful campaign in the SEC and helped the Bulldogs host a Super Regional in 2024. He hit .433 with 37 home runs and 78 RBI on the season. He also had a 1.565 OPS in 60 games with the Bulldogs.
Condon led the NCAA in batting average, home runs and slugging percentage this season. He also became the first-ever SEC player to slug over 1.000 and set a BBCOR-era (since 2011) record with his 37 homers in 2024.

Condon is expected to be in the mix as high as No. 1 overall in this summer’s MLB Draft. Bazzana and Smith are also expected to be high picks in this year’s draft, as is Florida’s Jac Caglianone. Caglianone was controversially snubbed from this year’s list of Golden Spikes Award finalists, but he did win the John Olerud Award as the nation’s top 2-way player earlier this week.
The 2024 College World Series will wrap up this week in Omaha. Tennessee and Texas A&M are set to face off in Game 1 of a best-of-3 series on Saturday night.
