The South Carolina men’s basketball team will feature highly touted freshman GG Jackson this season.

The 6-foot-9 power forward is a native of Columbia who is the No. 1 prospect at his position and the best recruit in South Carolina, according to 247Sports. The heralded local prodigy recently met with the media on Wednesday for the first time since becoming a Gamecock.

The five-star prospect touched on the biggest adjustment he’s had to make so far at the college level. It relates to acclimating to the college lifestyle.

“Definitely time management. I don’t have my mom or my dad to knock on the door and tell me to wake up that I have school in the morning. That’s been a big adjustment,” Jackson said via 247Sports. “Just overall, getting my body used to the college life, having to lift every day, having to eat right. I didn’t know how much eating played a role into it.”

In terms of an on-the-court adjustment, Jackson mentioned a difference with navigating through more rigorous interior defense.

“I can’t drive through the lane as easy and put the ball in the air and dunk it. I have to finesse my way through, use a lot of skill and the muscle that I’ve gained to try to overpower defenders and stuff,” Jackson said. “The speed of the game, how I can run the floor. Like that, it’s like that every possession.”

South Carolina is coming off a season in which they recorded an 18-13 record and fell to Mississippi State in the second round of the conference tournament. South Carolina will tip off the season with a home matchup vs. South Carolina State on Nov. 8 (7 p.m. ET/SEC Network).
