Georgia defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach Glenn Schumann was asked Saturday about the Bulldogs’ group of 3 freshman linebackers: CJ Allen, Troy Bowles and Raylen Wilson.

All 3 were at least 4-star prospects out of high school with Wilson representing 1 of Georgia’s 4 5-star recruits added in the 2023 cycle.

Schumann was asked what specifically stood out about all 3 during the recruiting process and rattled off a few attributes: notably their insane collective athleticism.

โ€œThey’re very talented in terms of their athleticism, in terms of being versatile in their skillset. They’re not limited to doing one thing. That’s what attracted me to them when I watched the tape,โ€ Schumann said. โ€œSpeed is a premium. Ability to play in space is a premium. What really made me want to sign those individuals and why I’m happy they’re here is they’re extremely competitive, extremely hard-working, they love football, and they’re good people. If you check those four in addition to your skillset, those are guys you want to coach.โ€

Bowles, Allen and Wilson all committed within a month of each other in June/July of 2022. Allen was the first to pledge to Georgia on June 20, 2022.

All 3 join an inside linebackers room at Georgia that is chock-full of talent. Jamon Dumas Johnson and Smael Mondon highlight a room that also includes Xavian Sorey, EJ Lightsey and Jalon Walker.

Georgia kicks off its season in less than 3 weeks against UT Martin on September 2.
