The player chosen to wear the No. 18 jersey is a special annual honor in Baton Rouge but the No. 7 jersey has also begun to be given out to special players in the LSU program.

With spring football set to begin in Baton Rouge, a No. 7 has been announced and the honor goes to All-American defender Grant Delpit. Delpit will now follow in the footsteps of players such as D.J. Chark, Leonard Fournette, Tyrann Mathieu and Patrick Peterson — who started the tradition of outstanding players wearing No. 7 for the Tigers. Peterson started the tradition when he passed down the No. 7 jersey to Mathieu when his college career came to an end.

For his performance on the field in 2018, Delpit was honored as a unanimous All-American as a sophomore after excelling in the team’s defense. Now, he will be tasked with carrying on the proud tradition of becoming the face of No. 7 for the Tigers.
