Grayson McCall’s successful college career is over.

The North Carolina native took to Instagram on Wednesday night to announce his retirement from football due to a head injury.

McCall originally starred for Coastal Carolina. The QB led the team to 3 bowl games and was named Sun Belt Player of the Year 3 times.

Ahead of the 2024 season, McCall transferred to North Carolina State. The season has not gone as planned for McCall or the Wolfpack, however, as the QB has dealt with injury for much of the season.

However, this latest injury, a head injury suffered against Wake Forest, will seemingly sideline the talented QB for good.

McCall suffered a head injury back in September against Louisiana Tech. The QB was out until Week 6 against Wake Forest. That return wouldn’t last long, however, as McCall ended up being carted off the field with another head injury. NC State’s Dave Doeren called that injury the “scariest moment” of his career.

After that Wake Forest game, Doeren provided a positive outlook and said McCall was in “good spirits.” However, the QB said in his retirement announcement that this injury is “one that I cannot come back from.”

“Unfortunately, my dream has been cut just short,” said the QB in his post. “As you all know I have battled injuries my whole career, but this is one that I cannot come back from.”

McCall mentioned that brain specialists advised him to step away. The passer did signify his intention to remain in the game as a coach, however.

While his playing career isn’t ending the way he wanted it to, the QB will go down as one of the Sun Belt’s most accomplished passers. Best of luck to Grayson in his future endeavors.
