McElroy has Texas the No. 1 team in the country following its demolition of Oklahoma over the weekend. However, the Longhorns are the only other SEC team in McElroy’s top 5.
Oregon, Ohio State and Penn State are the next 4 teams on the list, mirroring this week’s AP Top 25. Miami rounds out McElroy’s top 5, just ahead of Alabama and Georgia. Tennessee also landed at No. 10 to give the SEC 4 programs in his top 10 this week.
LSU at No. 12 and Texas A&M at No. 14 are the other SEC teams represented this week.
This list could see a major shakeup after Week 8. Georgia will travel to face Texas in Austin this weekend in an AP Top 5 matchup. Tennessee will also host Alabama this weekend in a highly-anticipated meeting between a couple of CFP hopefuls.
