Greg McElroy breaks down the biggest college football games every week for ESPN. In anticipation of the Alabama-LSU matchup, the former Crimson Tide QB gave his prediction for who will come out on top of this SEC West clash.

“Alabama is 16-6-1 against the spread as a home favorite since the start of the 2020 season,” McElroy said “Everybody seems to be favoring LSU in this situation, which is understandable. People get very enamored with offensive firepower.”

However, McElroy is not one of those people.

“I think Alabama wins the game. I think Alabama will be able to slow the game down,” McElroy explained.

The former Bama QB also noted that LSU’s recent defensive successes have been against Auburn and Army, which are not exactly dynamic offenses. The Tigers are also without defensive linemen Mekhi Wingo and defensive back Zy Alexander.

Saban’s Crimson Tide will be looking for their 7th win in a row after suffering an early season home loss to the Texas Longhorns. The Tigers are looking to make it 2 consecutive victories over the Tide.

The Tide have had the Tigers’ number during the Saban era. The Tide have won 8 of the last 10 meetings against the team, with the Tigers winning in 2022 and 2019. The SEC West rivals will kick off from Tuscaloosa at 7:45 p.m. Eastern.
