Greg McElroy is familiar with Alabama football, as that is where he played his college football. He has now become a big part of ESPN’s college football coverage as both a broadcaster and as an analyst.

With all of this experience, he is the perfect person to talk about what is going on for an Alabama team that has lost 2 of its last 3 games.

In recent days, many have claimed the door to the College Football Playoff has been shut on Alabama. McElroy doesn’t share that belief; he doesn’t think all is lost for the Crimson Tide.

“Alabama is not dead yet, but they’ve got to grow up in a hurry,” McElroy said on the Always College Football podcast this week. “There’s a lot of things they do well. Coming into the performance against Tennessee, a lot of the questions were about the defensive side of the ball. I went back and watched that game against Tennessee and I feel pretty good about what I am seeing from the defense.”

While he is confident in the defense, he does admit the offense has to get better.

“Right now, the offense runs almost exclusively through Jalen Milroe,” McElroy said. “They need to take some of the responsibility off of Jalen Milroe, and delegate it to the run game. Lastly, they have got to stop with the penalties. The dumb mistakes from penalties standpoint can’t happen because right now, this team isn’t good enough to overcome self-inflicted mistakes.”

The 15th-ranked Crimson Tide host No. 21 Missouri on Saturday. Alabama is a 13.5-point favorite in the game at ESPN Bet. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. on ABC.
