Greg McElroy discussed Tommy Rees’ growth at Alabama on Tuesday on Always College Football, considering how much credit the offensive coordinator should get.
Alabama’s offense was stagnant to start the season, but has since come into its own with Jalen Milroe at the helm. McElroy said that part of Rees figuring out Alabama’s offense was Milroe developing more.
“I think it’s a combination of both,” McElroy said. “The OC’s not gonna look great without the quarterback playing great, but I do think there’s a little bit of a process of feeling out. Tommy Rees was thrust into a situation where he had 3 guys with varying skill sets, all did things a little bit differently, and they didn’t have very much of an offensive identity for a while.”
McElroy believes Rees deserves credit for the way he has been able to get the offense to click. Now the Tide are on their way to the SEC Championship and possibly more postseason glory.
“I think Tommy Rees deserves a lot of credit for getting to know his personnel and now putting them in a position to be really comfortable to play and perform at a crazy high level,” McElroy said.
