Greg McElroy believes the SEC West will be a tight battle between Alabama, LSU, and Texas A&M for the remainder of the season.

The ESPN analyst shared this opinion during the most recent edition of the Always College Football show. McElroy believes all 3 teams have flaws but are clearly the cream of the crop in the division, as he excluded Ole Miss after the loss vs. Alabama.

McElroy raves about Alabama’s defense while citing some offensive concerns after the 24-10 win vs. Ole Miss.

“Alabama is another team that made a ton of mistakes. Milroe had a bad interception. I thought he really did a nice job in the 2nd half of that football game. There were some bad sacks taken…” McElroy said. “Seth McLaughlin snapping it over his head. They’ve had a handful of poor snaps…They just have a lot to clean up…They’ve got to be more efficient.”

LSU escaped Arkansas with a 34-31 victory in Week 4. McElroy explains his view on the “up and down” Tigers.

“Think about LSU. When Jayden Daniels is on, they’re a very difficult team to beat. He had a rough first half against Arkansas…He just wasn’t on his game. But when he’s going, man,” McElroy said. “They’re going to be a little up and down from time to time..The Hogs scored on their final 5 possessions, which is something that’s really concerning. We know the secondary is not great but the front 7 that’s got to be the calling card of LSU.”

Meanwhile, McElroy says Texas A&M starting quarterback Conner Weigman going down with an ankle injury in the win vs. Auburn is “something to be concerned about”.

Yet, McElroy marveled at backup Max Johnson’s performance in relief, as the sophomore completed 7 of his 11 passes for 123 yards, 2 touchdowns, and no interceptions, while also heaping praise on the defense.

“Max Johnson goes in and doesn’t miss a beat…Really broke the game open in a lot of ways…” McElroy said. “You think about where the Aggies [defense] have been the last couple weeks on 3rd down, man they are ridiculous.”
