Greg McElroy predicts Alabama to produce the best secondary in all of college football

Greg McElroy is ready for the 2025 college football season, and he recently dropped a major prediction for Alabama football.
Entering a 2nd season under head coach Kalen DeBoer, McElroy is predicting a major jump for the secondary of the Crimson Tide. Last season, the team was 7th in the SEC in total yards allowed per game (320.1) but was 3rd in the conference at 182.2 yards per game. Alabama was also 2nd in the SEC and tied for 7th nationally with 17 interceptions.
However, McElroy is ready to predict that Alabama will have the best secondary in the country this fall:
“I really believe, and maybe I’m crazy for thinking this. I think the growth we’re going to see in the secondary — I think they’re going to have the best secondary in college football,” predicted McElroy during the latest broadcast of McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning. “I really think they have that level of potential, I really, really believe that.”
McElroy specifically highlighted safety Keon Sabb, a former Michigan star who was limited to 7 games in 2024 due to a broken foot. Even with those limitations, Sabb had 2 interceptions and 4 pass breakups, and McElroy is excited to see what a healthy season for him looks like.
“I think Keon Sabb, when healthy, is an absolute dude. The thing is, of the games he played last year, I want to say 60% of them were with a broken foot, including chasing down a receiver against Tennessee with a broken foot,” McElroy explained. “That is absolutely insane. The guy is tough as nails and is an absolute war daddy and played the whole season on one leg and was still an impact player.”
If McElroy’s prediction comes true, it would provide a great cushion for the offense with a new starting quarterback adjusting to life leading the Tide. Even with that question mark, Alabama is still a top-10 team in the preseason 2025 national championship odds produced by DraftKings, and fans can keep up with the odds all season long with the sports betting apps available in their area.
