Greg McElroy reacts to Washington-Texas Sugar Bowl: ‘One of the greatest games I think I’ve ever witnessed’

Greg McElroy was on the call with Sean McDonough for the Sugar Bowl, as Washington held off a last-minute charge by Texas to win 37-31 and advance to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game vs. Michigan.
“One of the greatest games I think I’ve ever witnessed,” McElroy said on his “Always College Football” podcast from New Orleans.
It looked as if Washington would be able to seal the victory with relative ease in the 4th quarter, but a series of events toward the end set up a dramatic final drive by Texas. But a Quinn Ewers pass to the end zone on the last play of the game was broken up by the Huskies to seal their spot in the CFP final.
“It was wild. It was not for the faint of heart. But it was tremendous resilence from both Texas and Washington to somehow make this a game at the very end,” McElroy added.
He drew parallels between Washington to the 2019 LSU team led by Joe Burrow and Justin Jefferson that ran the table and won the national championship.
“They have a quarterback that is all-world…they have 3 legitimate dudes at wide receiver…and they’re almost uncoverable. On the downfield passes, they were pinopoint accuracy,” he said.
