It’s a tumultuous time in college football. Between schools and conferences exploring realignment options and the College Football Playoff’s impending expansion, there’s plenty going on behind the scenes.

For SEC commissioner Greg Sankey, everything that’s been going on has led to a lot of misdirection in his eyes, which he doesn’t believe is in the best interest of college football or college athletics in general.

On Saturday ahead of the Georgia-Oregon game, Sankey drew an interesting comparison as it relates to his communication efforts with his colleagues, per 247Sports.

“You ever watch the show ‘Deadliest Catch’ on Discovery? That’s one of the shows I DVR,” Sankey said. “I feel we’re all a bit like crab fishermen.

“If you watch the show, if you’re catching crab, and your buddy calls and says ‘Hey, catching any crab?’ you say ‘No,’ because you want to keep putting your pots down and catch crabs. On the other hand if you’re not catching crab and your buddy calls and says ‘Hey, are you catching crabs?’ you say, ‘Oh yeah, come on down,’ because then you can figure out where they are around you.”

Added Sankey: I feel like a crab fisherman from time to time. That’s why I was clear about [the SEC’s] direction. And the fact that the uncertainty lingers the way it has, I don’t think is really helpful for the overall endeavor. It creates questions.”
