Greg Sankey on Monday at SEC Media Days confirmed plans that the league intends to keep the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta beyond 2026, when the current contract expires.
“We’re focusing our (championship) football game, what is really the envy of the college football world, in Atlanta. That’s our focus,” Sankey said, and added that the SEC is “in the process of working with Mercedes Benz Stadium” to extend the contract to keep the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta.
The popular title game has been in Atlanta every year since 1994. However, other cities such as Nashville, Tennessee, which is opening a new stadium for the Tennessee Titans in 2026, have reached out to the league about possibly hosting future games. And the league has moved SEC Media Days to other cities, such as Nashville and the event will be in Dallas next year.
