Greg Sankey reaffirms his view around the SEC’s position on Playoff expansion
If you think that SEC commissioner Greg Sankey would be interested in expanding the College Football Playoffs to 8 teams, you’d be sadly mistaken. Sankey reaffirmed his commitment to staying with four teams at least for now.
Sankey said this to Mark Packer on SiriusXM:

“Our conference is fully comfortable staying with the 4 best teams. I can’t be more clear than that,” Sankey said. “I think one of the misnomers is that somehow there’s a link to membership transition in the Southeastern Conference and a suggestion to go to 12.”
Sankey believes having conference champions in a 12-team field has to be balanced against having the best teams. In fact, the SEC is still in a good position this year to have more than one team be in this year’s CFP.
Sankey said he’s always looked at the effort to figure out a format to say, “How to you make it an expectation to meet conference champions, but also have the credibility of ensuring the best teams.”
