Growing pains? Tennessee fans weigh in on QB Brian Maurer’s performance

Tennessee freshman QB Brian Maurer got the start on Saturday against Mississippi State, and the results have been mixed so far.
In the first half, he’s 4-for-7 for 61 yards. However, two of those incompletions went to Mississippi State defenders. He did lead a touchdown drive in the first quarter, though, and Tennessee still holds a narrow 7-3 lead.
Now, he’s in the medical tent after taking a big hit late in the second quarter.
Here’s a look at that second interception:

Tennessee fans are frustrated, but it seems they’re willing to give the freshman some time to develop. Here are some of the reactions to Saturday’s up-and-down first-half performance:
Brian Maurer is basically Brett Favre 2.0 at this point.

A recap of Brian Maurer's first half:
Good…Good…Bad…Good…Great…Good…Great…Really Great…Really Bad.
The #Vols freshman just threw a second interception while passing into the end zone after making several strong plays.

Watching Maurer play QB is an emotional roller coaster

My goodness, Maurer is gonna play himself out of his starting job if he keeps doing this.

Gonna give Maurer a pass on that particular interception considering he broke his neck a few plays earlier and stayed in the game. Gutsy.

#Vols should be up way more than they are but at his point I’ll take the lead. Maurer will learn from these mistakes.
